Steelers at Redskins
LeVeon Bell making his Steelers preseason debut and on the first play from scrimmage the rookie out of Michigan State runs to the left for a pickup of 4. 3 plays later Bell goes up the middle and is stopped after a 1 yard gain, but he was injured on the play, he would leave the game with a mid-foot-sprain. Later in the first Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger is sacked by Kedric Golston and Barry Cofield for a loss of 6. Then next play Roethlisberger expecting to dump it off but is intercepted by Ryan Kerrigan who is going to take all the way back for a TD and the skins are up 7-0! Late 1st quarter, Roethlisberger scrambles up the middle and gets drilled by London Fletcher, Ben was not injured on the play. Let’s go back to earlier in the 1st quarter, 1st offensive play for the ‘skins and RG3’s backup Kirk Cousins finds Leonard Hankerson over the middle for a 16 yard gain! Redskins 1st down! Early 2nd quarter now,7-3 ‘skins and Cousins takes off and then slides for a gain of 7. A minute later, play action for the ‘skins and Cousins keeps it for himself and runs for a 7 yard gain and a Washington first down. Cousins goes down on the play he would not return, X-Rays were negative and Cousins has a sprained foot and the severity is not yet clear. Then, 1st and goal the Redskins 3rd string QB Rex Grossman is in, he is the only 3rd-string QB to have started a super bowl. He drops back and finds Leonard Hankerson who makes a 1-handed catch in the endzone and the ‘skins are up 14-3! The ‘skins would go on to win 24-13.
