Defending Wimbledon champion Andy Murray was eliminated by Grigor Dimitrov 6-1, 7-6 (4), 6-2 in straight sets on Wednesday. Dimitrov will advance to the semifinals with the win and it will be his first Grand Slam (Wimbledon, US Open, French Open, Australian Open) Semi EVER. The match was an upset as Dimitrov was ranked 11th, 8 spots lower than Murray who checked in at No. 3 but Dimitrov, who is one of the rising stars in Tennis won’t be an underdog for long, Murray said before the match: “Now he’s starting to come into his prime. He’s won a lot of matches this year. He’s a tough player. Will be a hard match for me. It’s a big opportunity for him as well, playing on the Centre Court at Wimbledon for the first time. It’s a great opportunity for him. Hopefully we can play a good match.” The Bulgarian destroyed Murray in the first set, breaking him twice and taking the first set 6-1 in just 25 minutes. The 2nd set was more competitive and a tiebreaker was needed with Murray taking a early lead but Grigor rallied, eventually taking the tiebreaker 7-4. Murray never even got a comeback started, the match was basically won when Dimitrov broke Murra, taking a 4-2 lead in the final set. That hole was too deep for the defending champ to dig out of and Dimitrov took the final set 6-2 to officially seal the biggest win of his career.
