UCLA (2-0) @
Memphis (1-0) – 12PM ET, ABC
Let me take you back to October 17th, 2015 in Memphis, Tennessee. Just four weeks after going on the road and shocking the world by beating Nick Saban and Alabama, the Ole Miss Rebels came to Memphis… and lost by two touchdowns, we’ll see if they can repeat that here. Coming into the year, I said there were three group of five teams that could make the playoff, Boise State, San Diego State, and Memphis (Sorry USF fans) because they played a top 25 team in nonconference. Obviously, Boise lost their chance, but SDSU and Memphis have shots to knock off Stanford and UCLA this week, and I would say there’s probably a 50-50 chance one of the two pull it off. Memphis has the advantage of getting the Bruins at home, and while UCLA has a 0 in the loss column, they probably should have lost that game to Texas A&M, and I almost called the upset here… almost. One reason kept me from doing it, Josh Rosen. The chosen one threw for 329 yards and five touchdowns on an 88% completion rate, averaging over 13 yards per attempt last week. This one will be another down to the wire game like UCLA’s week one matchup, but I have to side with the team with the best player on the field in these close of games, and here, that is Josh Rosen.
Prediction: UCLA 27, Memphis 24

Tennessee (2-0) @ #24
Florida (0-1) – 3:30PM ET, CBS
The SEC East is looking a lot better this year. Georgia and South Carolina have each started the year with a signature win over Notre Dame and NC State respectively, and the bottom tier of the division (Vandy, Missouri, and Kentucky) should all compete for a bowl bid. Then we have these two teams, the unknowns. The loser of this game will probably drop out of the Top 25 and will take a backseat in the race for the SEC East crown. I kept Florida in my Top 20 even after the offense had an abysmal game against Michigan in week one, that’s because the best player on the team, WR Antonio Callaway, was suspended for that game, and it was against Michigan, a team with a top-10 defense. Callaway will be back in this game. The Gators have this one at home, in the swamp, and I agree with Vegas. Florida wins in what will be a defensive battle.
Prediction: Florida 24, Tennessee 17

LSU (2-0) @
Mississippi State (2-0) – 7PM ET, ESPN
LSU and Mississippi State are two of the most underrated teams in the polls according to my computer rankings, LSU ranks seventh, and Mississippi State, who received just three points in the latest AP poll, is ranked by my system (translates to about 150 points). This game could be overshadowed by Clemson-Louisville, but thankfully it starts an hour earlier to get more eyes on it. LSU’s defense dominated what is in most years a prolific BYU offense, the Cougars never crossed the midfield line in Week One. Mississippi State’s offense is certainly a step up, and they dominated Louisiana Tech last week, a team consistently at the top of Conference-USA. The Bulldogs will home field advantage, and Nick Fitzgerald is definitely going to cross midfield, in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mississippi State was leading at halftime, but LSU’s defense is just too athletic, and Matt Canada finally has something going with the offense. LSU will pull away and open a lot of eyes.
Prediction: LSU 34, Mississippi State 21

Clemson (2-0) @ #14
Louisville (2-0) – 8PM ET, ABC
Do you remember the NCAA Tournament this past year, when Sindarius Thornwell pretty much carried South Carolina to the Final Four while the rest of the team was average? That’s this Louisville team. With Lamar Jackson on the field, Louisville will always be able to compete in big games, but the offensive line hasn’t gotten better, and the defense let up 35 points to a rebuilding North Carolina team. On the other hand, Clemson’s defense (specifically the D-Line) dominated an Auburn team that I think is better than Louisville, so even with home field advantage, I don’t think there is a question that Clemson is winning this game. Lamar Jackson can’t put up a Heisman performance if he’s getting pressured every single play, which is a distinct possibility given the mismatch at the line of scrimmage. Throw out those points, and give me Clemson minus the three.
Prediction: Clemson 38, Louisville 24 (Clemson -3 is a BEST BET for Week Three)
Texas (1-1) @ #4
USC (2-0) – 8:30PM ET, FOX
In a rematch of what some say was the greatest college football game ever, the 2005 Rose Bowl, this will get a lot of coverage, but it should never really be in doubt. Shane Buechele should be good to go for Texas, and my computer expects Texas to keep this one close (The Longhorns are still ranked, computers don’t react as much to one game compared to humans) but I don’t know if you will find one person outside of Austin that thinks that USC, who just beat Stanford last week, will lose to Texas. Body blow theory after a physical game against Stanford could keep Texas in this one, but USC should control this whole game, with Texas potentially getting a backdoor cover late. Either way, Sam Darnold and the Trojans are a top-five team, and they shouldn’t have trouble with Texas.
