#1 – Villanova (18-1) — No Change
Villanova has dominated their way through Big East play, the ‘Cats received 63 of the 65 first-place votes in the AP Poll, and are also ranked #1 in KenPom.
#2 – Purdue (19-2) — Up 1
Purdue jumps Virginia in my top 25 rankings this week. The Boilermakers have won 15 straight games and are still undefeated in the US.
#3 – Virginia (18-1) — Down 1
Virginia drops a spot, only because Purdue has been so good recently, but with Clemson and Duke this week, the ‘Cavs could be right back at #2 next week.
#4 – Duke (17-2) — No Change
Duke owns wins over Michigan State and Florida, and with Virginia this week they have a chance for another top 15 win.
#5 – Michigan State (17-3) — Up 4
Honestly, I’m wondering whether or not Michigan State deserves to be in the top five, the Spartans have a sub-100 strength of schedule, but they are just too talented for that to hold the SOS back.
#6 – West Virginia (16-3) — Down 2
West Virginia’s win over Virginia keeps them from dropping too far. The Mountaineers have lost two of their last three, with a chance to right the ship against TCU on Monday.
#7 – Kansas (16-3) — Up 6
Kansas is back in the driver’s seat for a Big 12 title, but the loss to Washington is holding them back from a top-five spot.
#8 – Cincinnati (17-2) — Up 4
Cincinnati has won ten straight, with their only two losses to teams ranked in the top-20. The Bearcats are the favorite to win the American after Wichita State’s poor week.
#9 – North Carolina (16-4) — Up 2
North Carolina’s loss to Wofford is hard to look past, but the Tar Heels also own five KenPom A-Level wins including Tennessee, Ohio State, and Clemson.
#10 – Xavier (18-3) — Up 4
Xavier’s last two Saturdays have made me reconsider my opinion on the Musketeers, blowing at Creighton at home two weeks ago, and then beating Seton Hall on the road this past Saturday.
#11 – Ohio State (17-4) — Up 5
Ohio State has been one of the most surprisingly good teas this season. Since the start of December, the Buckeyes are 12-1, the only loss being to North Carolina away from home.
#12 – Gonzaga (17-4) — Down 4
Gonzaga’s win over Ohio State keeps looking better and better, and despite the loss to Saint Mary’s on Thursday, the Zags are still the highest ranked team in the WCC.
#13 – Saint Mary’s (19-2) — NEW
Saint Mary’s got a resume builder on Thursday, a road win over Gonzaga, but I can’t move the Gaels over the Bulldogs right now because of losses to Washington State and Georgia.
#14 – Oklahoma (14-4) — Down 8
Oklahoma went 0-2 this week, and I moved them behind Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s, but the Sooners will have plenty of time to earn that top ten ranking back.
#15 – Auburn (17-2) — No Change
Auburn lost to Alabama this week, but I just can’t justify jumping either of the two other SEC contenders over the Tigers.
#16 – Florida (14-5) — NEW
Florida’s wins over Arkansas and Kentucky bring the Gators back into the top 25, and their loss to Loyola Chicago actually is better than some of the teams ahead of them (Washington, Washington State, Wofford, and Boston College all are ranked below the Ramblers) now that LC is the favorite in the MVC.
#17 – Tennessee (13-5) — Up 6
All of Tennessee’s five losses are in KenPom A-Level games, and the Volunteers have a victory over Purdue in Atlantis.
#18 – Arizona (16-4) — Up 1
Arizona, my preseason national title pick, has certainly disappointed, but the Wildcats are 16-1 in games played outside of the Bahamas.
#19 – Texas Tech (15-4) — Down 12
Texas Tech lost to Iowa State, a team ranked 94th in KenPom, by 18 this week. I was high on the Red Raiders a few weeks ago, now I’m jumping off the bandwagon.
#20 – Clemson (16-3) — No Change
Clemson lost Donte Grantham for the season. The Tigers get a crack at my #3 team, Virginia, on Tuesday.
#21 – TCU (14-5) — Up 3
TCU has lost five of their last seven, but they actually move up a little bit in my top 25 because of my #21 and #22 teams losing.
#22 – Louisville (15-4) — NEW
Louisville currently owns the second-best conference record in the ACC, including win on the road against Florida State and Notre Dame.
#23 – Wichita State (15-4) — Down 13
Seriously considered dropping the Shockers from #10 to completely out of the top 25 after losing to SMU and Houston this week.
#24 – Florida State (14-5) — NEW
Florida State beat Virginia Tech on the road this week, and their wins over North Carolina and Florida earn them a top 25 record.
#25 – Creighton (15-5) — Down 7
I have been high on Creighton all year, and the win over Seton Hall on Wednesday is good enough to keep the Bluejays ranked.
Others Considered: #26 Arizona State, #27 Rhode Island, #28 Nevada, #29 Miami
Dropped Out: #17 Michigan, #21 Arizona State, #22 Kentucky, #25 Seton Hall
