College Basketball Top 25 – Michigan State and Duke Lose

#1 – Villanova (14-1) – Up 2

Villanova’s victories over Tennessee and Gonzaga boost them back up to #1 after Michigan State and Duke lost to unranked teams this weekend.

#2 – West Virginia (14-1) – Up 3

West Virginia might have the best resume in the country, the Mountaineers own wins against Missouri, Virginia, Oklahoma, @ Oklahoma State, and @ Kansas State.

#3 – Virginia (14-1) – Up 3

Virginia has flown under the radar, but their only loss is on the road by single digits to my #2 team, and the ‘Cavs dominated games @ Virginia Tech and vs North Carolina this week.

#4 – Michigan State (15-2) – Down 2

Michigan State’s loss to Ohio State hurts, but the Spartans’ losses are both to much better teams than NC State and Boston College.

#5 – Duke (13-2) – Down 4

Duke is 0-2 on the road in ACC play, and both losses are to teams in the bottom third of the conference. The talented roster and collection of wins against Michigan State, Texas, Florida, and Florida State keep them in the top five though.

#6 – Texas Tech (14-1) – Up 15

I should have paid more attention when Texas Tech climbed into the KenPom top ten last week, but a win @ Kansas on Tuesday certainly made me.

#7 – Oklahoma (12-2) – Down 3

Oklahoma’s wins @ USC, @ Wichita State, and @ TCU are the best trio of road wins in the country, and their only two losses are away from home against top 30 teams.

#8 – Purdue (15-2) – No Change

Purdue is up in the KenPom top five, and they are still undefeated in the United States including wins @ Marquette, vs Arizona, @ Maryland, and vs Butler.

#9 – Wichita State (13-2) – Up 4

Wichita’s wins vs Marquette, @ Baylor, and @ Oklahoma State are decent, and the only losses for the Shockers come at the hands of Oklahoma and Notre Dame by a combined nine points.

#10 – Kansas (12-3) – Down 1

Kansas has lost three games at home this year, including one to Texas Tech this week, but a victory @ TCU on Saturday put them back in my top ten.

#11 – Gonzaga (14-3) – Up 1

Gonzaga’s 27-point win over Ohio State keeps looking better and better, and their wins over Texas and Creighton add two more top-40 victories.

#12 – Florida State (12-3) – Up 3

Florida State beat North Carolina this week, and their win over Florida looks a lot better now.

#13 – Arizona State (13-2) – Down 6

Arizona State had to go through that brutal Colorado-Utah trip this week, and they dropped one of the two (and almost dropped the second).

#14 – Cincinnati (14-2) – Up 10

Cincinnati is up in the KenPom Top Ten, despite only one good win (@ UCLA), they will get another chance this week @ UCF.

#15 – Xavier (15-2) – Down 5

I never had Xavier up at #5, I had them at #10, so that loss @ Providence wasn’t as surprising to me.

#16 – TCU (13-2) – Up 3

TCU picked up a win @ Baylor on Tuesday, and because of many teams ahead of the Horned Frogs losing, they climb three spots.

#17 – Creighton (13-3) – Up 5

I really like this Crieghton team, more than most, all three losses are to teams ranked in the top 20 away from home.

#18 – North Carolina (12-4) – Down 3

Yes, they lost to Wofford, but the other three losses are to top 12 teams away from home, so you have to look at that four in the loss column with a grain of salt.

#19 – Seton Hall (14-2) – NEW

I think I’m not as a high on this Seton Hall team as most. The loss to Rutgers obviously hurts, and because their last three wins have been by an average of  less than five points, the Pirates are overdue for a loss.

#20 – Florida (11-4) – NEW

Florida has won five in a row, and like Arizona, this team is a national title contender when they are on.

#21 – Arizona (12-4) – Down 5

This team lost their first game in the United States on Saturday during that brutal Utah-Colorado road trip.

#22 – Clemson (14-1) – Up 3

Wins @ Ohio State, @ Boston College, and @ Florida highlight the resume, but the Tigers lost to a bad Temple team back in November.

#23 – Auburn (14-1) – NEW

Auburn only has one KenPom “A Level” win, @ Tennessee this week, and they too lost to that Temple team ranked 85th on KenPom.

#24 – Kentucky (12-3) – Down 7

This is probably one of the worst Kentucky teams we’ve seen in a while, and I think it’s fair to say that Florida or Auburn would beat the ‘Cats right now.

#25 – Notre Dame (13-3) – NEW

A win over Syracuse despite Bonzie Colson’s injury impressed me, and the Fighting Irish climb back into my top 25.

Others Considered #26 Tennessee, #27 Baylor, #28 Ohio State, #29 Michigan, #30 Arkansas

Dropped Out: #11 Texas A&M, #18 Arkansas, #20 Miami, #23 Tennessee
