#1 – Villanova (11-0) — N0 Change
Villanova is #1 in KenPom and the polls, undefeated with wins @Temple, and against Gonzaga and Tennessee on neutral courts.
#2 – Michigan State (10-1) — No Change
The Spartans’ only loss is a single digit defeat to Duke, and Michigan State owns wins over Notre Dame and North Carolina.
#3 – North Carolina (10-1) — Up 1
Two wins vs teams in my top 25 (Arkansas and Tennessee), Ohio State on Saturday will give them a shot at a third Top-50 win.
#4 – Miami (9-0) — Up 1
Miami’s win over Minnesota is their only one over a team ranked in the KenPom top-125, that will change once conference play begins.
#5 – Duke (11-1) — Up 1
Duke owns neutral court wins over Michigan State, Texas, and Florida, but that Boston College loss is one of the worst of any top-25 team.
#6 – Texas A&M (9-1) — Up 1
The neutral court beatdown of West Virginia keeps the Aggies at #6, along with wins vs Oklahoma State, Penn State, and @ USC.
#7 – West Virginia (9-1) — Up 1
The win over Virginia is the key piece to their resume, and the Mountaineers have won nine in a row.
#8 – Virginia (9-1) — Up 1
The nation’s best defense has faced a tougher schedule than any undefeated team, and the only loss is by single digits @ West Virginia.
#9 – Arizona State (10-0) — Up 1
The nation’s best resume resides in Tempe, and I can understand anyone who ranks these guys #1 because of their resume, but anyone who has watched this team play knows that they aren’t the best, any team with a sub-100 ranked defense does not deserve to be ranked at the top.
#10 – Kentucky (9-1) — Up 2
Kentucky has exactly zero KenPom “A Level” wins, and they only own one “B Level” victory. They won’t get a chance at an A Level win until January when the Cats travel to Knoxville.
#11 – Xavier (10-1) — No Change
Wins @ Wisconsin and vs Baylor and Cincinnati earn this team a top 15 spot. Big East conference play begins next week.
#12 – Wichita State (8-2) — Down 9
The loss to Oklahoma hurts, but this is still a very good team, and the best two-loss team in the country for sure.
#13 – Gonzaga (9-2) — Up 1
Wins over Ohio State and Texas during the PK80 are the crowning achievements of the ‘Zags season so far. Mark Few’s team travels to face San Diego State in one of the week’s biggest games.
#14 – Purdue (11-2) — Up 1
Wins @ Marquette, @ Maryland, and vs Arizona during the Battle 4 Atlantis (and a seven game winning streak) earn the Boilermakers a top 15 ranking.
#15 – Oklahoma (8-1) — NEW
Oklahoma has wins @ Oregon, @ USC, and @ Wichita State, and their only loss is on a neutral court to Arkansas. Watch this team.
#16 – TCU (10-0) — Up 1
Undefeated and it feels so good, but the Horned Frogs haven’t played since December 8th when they picked up their best win of the year, 84-80 against Nevada.
#17 – Kansas (8-2) — Down 1
The Washington loss is really bad, maybe the worst loss of any top 25 team, but they did beat Kentucky during the Champions Classic.
#18 – Arizona (8-3) — Up 2
My preseason national title pick is slowly climbing. After an awful 0-3 showing in the Battle 4 Atlantis, the Wildcats have won five straight, including wins vs my #6 team (Texas A&M) and @ UNLV.
#19 – Florida State (9-1) — Down 6
Florida State has just one loss, but their best win is who? 6-4 Florida? We’ll see if these guys are for real when they face my #3, #4, and #5 teams in a nine day span.
#20 – Cincinnati (9-2) — Up 4
Cincinnati finally added a big win to their resume with a road victory over UCLA. The ‘Cats will begin the new year with a game @ 7-3 Temple.
#21 – Creighton (8-2) — Up 2
The teams in this 20-25 have so much potential, Creighton is the epitome of that, in both of the Bluejay’s two losses, they were leading at the half.
#22 – Arkansas (8-2) — NEW
Arkansas’ win over Oklahoma earns them a top 25 spot. We are just two weeks away from SEC conference play.
#23 – Baylor (9-2) — Down 1
Baylor’s win over Creighton is the only thing keeping them ranked. After back-to-back losses, the Bears have faced #251, #214, #331, and a division 2 team.
#24 – Seton Hall (9-2) — Down 6
Seton Hall’s wins vs Texas Tech and @ Louisville keep them ranked even after their loss to Rutgers.
#25 – Tennessee (7-2) — Down 4
If single digit lossess to my #1 and #3 teams had gone a little differently, this team could be a lot higher.
Others Considered: Louisville, Texas Tech, Nevada
Dropped Out: #19 Notre Dame, #24 Florida
