COLLEGE FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS WEEK 3

Welcome back College Football, I missed you. I am so excited for this season to start. Last year I took on Phil Steele’s College Football Picks challenge, and defeated arguably the greatest mind of College Football Analysts with a 116-34 record compared to Steele’s 111-39. This year I will take on the challenge again. Last Week was uhhhh I don’t want to talk about it.

My Record: 15-5

Phil’s Record: 18-2

No. 14 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at No. 8Notre Dame Fighting Irish

If you look for odds on this game you will see that Number Eight Notre Dame is a home dog to the #14 Yellow Jackets. It’s not often you see the higher ranked team projected to lose at home but with Notre Dame losing their top quarterback and top two running backs in the first two weeks of the season it is completely understandable last week I was live at Notre Dame vs Virginia and boy did the Irish look sloppy. It took a fake field goal, multiple 4th down conversions and a game winning Hail Mary with 12 seconds left to beat a struggling Virginia team.

The Pick: Georgia Tech

Northern Illinois Huskies at No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State didn’t look as incredible as some had hoped last week against Hawaii but it was expected because the Buckeyes had a short week to prepare. Northern Illinois has been to 5 straight MAC title games but they won’t be able to hang with the top team in the nation. Look for the semi-poor performance last week to light a fire under the Buckeyes and carry them to a big win.

The Pick: Ohio State

Air Force Falcons at No. 4 Michigan State Spartans

The option is rarely used in Big Ten play which means Air Force might be able to gt off a few big runs against the team with the best win of the year to this point. However Air Force is running with their backup quarterback Karson Roberts. Lets be honest, does anyone really expect Air Force to pull the upset here?

The Pick: Michigan State

No. 15 Ole Miss Rebels at No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide

Hopefully this doesn’t count as a copyright but Ole Miss is #1 in ESPN’s FPI which is a ratings system that try’s to rank every NCAA team. A lot has been made of how they do not deserve after just blowing out two cupcakes. Last Year I was one of the only ones to predict Ole Miss’ shocking return to dominance and win over Alabama BEFORE THE SEASON STARTED. This year’s Ole Miss team isn’t as good and this game will be on the road, however, Alabama looked a little shaky last week vs Middle Tennessee so a solid performance will prove all the doubters, including me who dropped them to #3 this week, wrong. I went back and forth on this game forever but…

The Pick: Ole Miss

Georgia State Panthers at No. 12 Oregon Ducks

Oregon was 1 less overthrow on third down away from scoring a touchdown and beating a solid Michigan State team. Last week in my preview I said I thought Vernon Adams was overrated and last week was the first step in proving me wrong for the former Eastern Washington QB(Quick Did You Know: He won my first ever Player of the Week award in like 2012 when he was on E-Dub) Georgia State has a great arm in Nick Arbuckle but this will still be a blowout one week before Oregon’s first Pac-12 game.

The Pick: Oregon

No. 23 Northwestern Wildcats at Duke Blue Devils

Ok, ok you can stop rubbing your eyes you read that right, Number 23 Northwestern. New quarterback Clayton Thorson continues the tradition of dual threats at Northwestern as they travel to take on Duke. This Blue Devil’s team might be the best Duke team in a while. The Wildcats have a history of winning and losing games late and I think they blow this one by a field goal late.

The Pick: Duke

BYU Cougars at No. 10 UCLA Bruins

Week 1: 1 second left BYU chucks a Hail Mary downfield and wins the game. Week 2: About 1 minute left, Taylor Magnum once again throws a Hail Mary and scores. Can the Cougars go for the trifecta? A big question this week was if BYU goes 12-0 will they make the playoff? I think Yes but it won’t matter because UCLA is one of the best teams in the nation.

The Pick: UCLA

Stanford Cardinal at No. 6 USC Trojans

In the first two weeks of the year USC dominated Arkansas State and Idaho. Stanford… not so much. USC is a very complete team, one of the best in the nation and I think they will win this game by about 17 points.

The Pick: USC

No. 18 Auburn Tigers at No. 13 LSU Tigers

Last week we were very close to the biggest upset of ALL TIME as Auburn nearly got shocked by Jacksonville State. This game will show us if that was a fluke or if Auburn is really overrated. After a 14 rank drop it should light a fire under the Tigers. LSU is also looking for revenge after getting blown out by Auburn last year. I think it will be close but LSU gets the win.

The Pick: LSU

UTSA Roadrunners at Oklahoma State Cowboys

Last year these two teams met and Oklahoma State won by 30 points. Both teams are better this year and UTSA looked very good against Arizona in a loss. Oklahoma State has the edge on all sides of the ball but Texas San-Antonio will keep it close

The Pick: Oklahoma State
